But lets be honest most of us are stuck and we are spinning in circles and we need help.

Yes Sharon, we are all teachers we are all students. Being teachable opens the door for personal growth. The more you grow, the better your relationships are, professionally and personally. Being teachable is all about learning, growing, building, seeking. I plan on always being teachable.

Great Post
As an educator one of the things that I try to instill in students is the importance of being a life long learner. In order to do that I myself must model that and always be willing to learn and grow.
I am also a Principal and the one thing I look for in teachers and the message I try to convey and instill in my current teachers is that in order to grow you must be willing to learn.

Leadership requires a commitment to lifelong learning, to reiterate what Akevy says. My father, husband, and sister all work in K-12 education, and I’m involved in educational leadership efforts on the periphery.
When I speak to groups, I reinforce the message that the day we stop learning something new is the day we stop living.
One of the blessings of social media is that resources are shared, and there for our taking to read, absorb, consider, apply. I’m becoming more active in commenting on blogs like yours, not simply reading, so that I can better deepen my learning. I cherish those “ah-ha” moments that occur more than once a day from leaderfriends who are gracious enough to share what they know with students like me.

To learn is to receive.
To receive a few things has to happen. One, I need to be vulnerable. Another is to give someone else power. In learning I am assuming someone knows more than me.
Being the ‘know it all’ that I can be – being vulnerable to learn is an act of surrender. That is good.

Long ago when I began studying acting with Jasper Deeter at Hedgerow Theatre I learned from him that there were three pre-requisites to becoming an actor: Humility. Honesty. And an aptitude for learning.
This post reminded me of those three pre-requisites.
Shopping at the local Walmart “Neighborhood Market” today made me aware that in the very midst of the mundane we are within an atmosphere from which we can learn all that we require. All of life is always “there” – wherever we are – whatever we are doing – it is always life, with its lessons and its mystery and its wonders.
I feel fortunate to have come into the consciousness of your #leadfromwithin

Teachable I am, for that is the only way forward I know.
Although never a great learner at school, perhaps because I had to question things. “What if” was I am sure, two words that my teachers were sick of hearing from me.
Once I escaped, life became one big lesson. My teachers; my peers, children and elders have never stopped teaching, even mother nature has been hard at it. It is a wonder how they all have the tenacity to keep going, but they do and so it is my responsibility to always keep learning.
If we can not learn from our own and others mistakes then we are perpetually going to re-do what we have done. There is greatness in every human being, waiting, to grow and evolve. But to grow we need nourishment and to be cared for. To do that we must learn and teach, learn and teach. Pass on our findings, so that we and others can see another layer beneath and within ourselves, then we can grow.
There are lessons out in front of us all everyday, and it is up to each and everyone of us to seek that knowledge and wisdom, try to understand what it means to us, and pass it on in some way.
Life is a great tapestry that changes daily, it is probably the greatest of all teachers. It is up to us to be great learners, change what we know is wrong, try to make what is right our own, seek knowledge and understanding and listen to the lessons that are being taught.

Thank you Lolly and all the other wonderful teachers out there for their great knowledge that they have passed on. I try to listen from within, grow from within, teach from within and then lead from within.

This is SO true. I am a totally learning nerd. I cannot imagine a time when I’m not trying to learn something. Failing to learn (be taught) is deciding that you’re good enough. I cannot imagine anything more arrogant. Thanks so much, Lolly!
